Frequently Asked Questions
How many dancers will make the team?
There is no set answer to that. All of the scores are arranged from highest to lowest, the team is decided where there biggest break in scores is. The JV team will be determined by the second highest divide in scores.
How much does drill team cost?
Cost varies from year to year. Rookies pay the most, but each year, the price will go down significantly. Rookies pay on average $600-$1000 their first year, and Veterans pay around $400. There are ways to buy gently used items to cut down on costs which is recommended if you are going to be a first year member and a senior.
Once I make the team how long do I have to pay off my balance?
Your total will be divided up in payments starting with your first payment the week after tryouts, and your last payment on the first day of school.
What will the audition be like?
You will tryout out in groups of 3 or 4 in front of 3 HEB ISD approved judges.
What will I wear to auditions?
You must wear an all black sleeveless top (no bra straps showing), black jazz dance pants, and black jazz shoes.
What if I can’t do my splits?
The splits make a portion of your total score. You can definitely make the team if you do not have your splits, but the closer you are to having them, the more points you will get.
What is the best thing I can do to prepare for tryouts?
Enroll in a drill team prep class, or a technique class (sometimes called leaps and turns) at a dance studio. There are a lot of great dance studios in the area, I would get in as many classes as time and money will allow. If that is not possible the best advice is to start stretching and dancing. You can look up stretch and technique routines on youTube or you can contact us to set up private lessons with current Dance Officers.

How much does the team practice?
The Dance Teams practice A LOT. We practice the first two trimesters in the mornings before school, usually around 7am until the end of 1st period. There are some rare afternoon practices and during competition season there may be a few Saturday practices. In the summer, we rookie and line camps in June, and boot camp at the beginning of August. If working hard is not for you, then drill team is not for you.
Can I do drill team and a sport too?
It is possible to be a Troy-Ann and be involved in other extracurricular activities on campus. However, Troy-Anns must be aware that they do not have an off season, and are expected to manage their time well. Being part of more than one activity is great, but will require hard work and sacrifice.
